Echinometra Mathaei, commonly referred to as the Rock Boring or burrowing Urchins have a distinguishable pale ring at the base of each spine. These urchins use their 5 teeth (Aristotles Lantern) to dig through the rock to create their burrow coming out at night to feed on algae and other decaying matter. These species are quite abundant around reefs throughout the world. can spawn in captivity. We have noticed they also feed on coralline algae. WYSIWYG
