Palythoas are the larger of the zoanthid species and produce a slimier coat when irritated. This species is one of the hardiest of the Palythoas. While it can tolerate different ranges of lighting and flow, it will look its best in moderate lighting (PAR 100-250) and moderate flow. This species is aquacultured but originated in the indopacific around islands like Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. When handling these Palythoa coral make sure to check for open cuts that may be exposed to this coral or wear gloves and eyewear to avoid palytoxins (a neurotoxin that can cause irritant to the skin and in rare situations have deadly consequences).
